Privacy policy

Effective 20 October 2026

Talk to Scripture is run by Champlin Enterprises ("we"). This policy covers the Talk to Scripture apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, and talktoscripture.com.

What we collect

  • Your account: your email address, your name if you give it to us (or Apple, Google, Microsoft or LinkedIn shares it when you sign in with them), and an account number we assign.
  • What you write: your messages to the witnesses, the replies, your councils, the replies you save, and any report you send about a reply.
  • A device identifier: the app creates a random identifier the first time it runs. We use it to apply the limits for people who have not signed in and to tell your signed-in devices apart. It is not your phone's advertising identifier and is not shared with anyone.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser or app version, which our servers use to keep the service secure and to limit abuse.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, health or financial information. There is no advertising anywhere, and the apps contain no third-party analytics. The website talktoscripture.com uses Google Analytics and our own Pulse analytics to count visits.

How we use it

  • To run the service: sign you in, keep your conversations, and show them on your devices.
  • To write replies: your message and the conversation so far are sent, through a gateway we run, to the AI provider whose model writes each witness's reply. We use Anthropic and OpenAI models. Both process it on our behalf, neither trains its models on it, and each deletes it from its systems within 30 days. Our gateway records how many words were used, not what was said.
  • To keep the service safe: rate limits, abuse prevention, and reviewing replies that people report.
  • To write to you: sign-in codes, password resets and replies to your messages are sent by email.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. We share only what each of these needs to provide its part of the service:

  • Anthropic and OpenAI, to write replies. Neither trains on what you send, and both delete it within 30 days.
  • Mailgun, to deliver our email to you.
  • Apple, Google, Microsoft and LinkedIn, if you choose to sign in with them.
  • Google Analytics, on the website only, to count visits.

If you share a conversation or a council, anyone with that link can read it until you delete it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and conversations until you delete them. Deleting your account removes them from our live database at once.

  • Web sign-ins: your IP address and browser are held with your website session and removed when the session expires.
  • Server logs: our web server records each request with its IP address. Logs are rotated by size, which at current traffic means about three months.
  • Backups: our server is backed up nightly. Backups stay on the server and are rotated out after about three weeks, so a deleted account disappears from them within that time.
  • Reports you send: a report about a reply is stored with the IP address it was sent from so that we can review it.

Deleting your account

In the app: Me, Delete account. This deletes your account and all of your conversations, councils and saved replies. You can also ask us to delete your account on our account deletion page.

Children

Talk to Scripture is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
